Gearing up for the 18th MOBO awards
October 17, 2013
With the MOBO awards peeking their heads around the corner, to say we’re excited would a massive understatement.
We’re eagerly awaiting Saturday evening when Glasgow – for third time – will have the honour of playing host to the MOBO elite who’ll descend upon the banks of the Clyde to The SSE Hydro – the latest addition to a spectacular riverside skyline, and what’s set to become one of the best venues in the world.
Having played at every iconic venue in London since 1996 including the Royal Albert Hall (6 times to be exact), Wembley Arena and the O2, MOBO made the bold move from its London birthplace to Glasgow in 2009. And why not? The city lies at the heart of a major air, rail and road network making it an easily accessible destination. We’re served by three international airports with 40 daily flights from London and frequent direct train services from London and the North.
So, the likes of Naughty Boy, Fuse ODG, Iggy Azalea, Laura Mvula, Rudimental, So Solid Crew and Tinie Tempah – who’ll all be performing at this year’s event – can choose whatever means of transport they want to get here!
What’s more; from art to music to film production and digital marketing, Glasgow’s riverside plays home to the cities thriving creative community across sectors, so we’re sure they’ll fit right in!
The glitzy evening will be hosted by Trevor Nelson MBE, one of BBC radio’s most prestigious and long-standing urban music DJs and winner of four MOBO Awards, as well as fellow presenter and international DJ, Sarah-Jane Crawford – who’s currently the leading lady of BBC Radio 1Xtra and one of the most popular figures in UK broadcasting, holding record audience figures for the Monday to Friday afternoon time slot.
With the top class talent involved, it’s sure to be a top class evening. You can keep up with all the action on Twitter by following hashtag #MOBOawards.
There are still some tickets available which you can get your hands on here. For those you who are unable to snaffle any tickets, and also as a bonus for those who have, you can get a taste of the action ahead of the evening at ‘Celebrate MOBO’ – a one day free creative industries event at The Barras Art And Design (BAaD) from 10am-6pm on Friday 18th October.
The event will showcase the latest emerging talent from Scotland throughout the day, featuring appearances from the Queen of the MOBOS, Kanya King MBE as well Glasgow’s own music legend Jim Gelately among a host of other industry leaders from around the UK – a great opportunity to network and engage with industry experts from the fields of digital, gaming, music and fashion. It’s not to be missed! You can register for the event in advance here. Don’t forget to follow the conversation over on Twitter using hashtag #cbMOBO.
